A Message from Akira Toriyama-Sensei

My sincerest gratitude to all those who bought this Dragon Ball movie DVD box! With these movies, the Dragon Box series finally comes to a close.

In most cases with the movies, the script writers used their marvelous techniques to write up an original story, based on my original work. The original work develops in such a way that it makes it difficult to come up with side-stories, so I think they really did a good job.

I was very busy during serialization, so I couldn’t really help them out, but every once in a while the producer would ask me to design an original enemy character for the movies, so that was the only time that I’d collaborate with them a little bit. But that sure was hard… Even though I had all these strong-looking characters appearing in the manga, and was already at my limit material-wise, I still had to think up even stronger designs… Really, they’re all such a strong-looking bunch that it raises my blood pressure.

Still, this allowed them to make these amazing movies that are so powerful and effective, so what am I complaining about?

As the creator of Dragon Ball, I’m thoroughly made aware of what a happy manga it is, blessed by its fans and staff.

— Akira Toriyama

Disc o1 Explanation of Movie
In this second movie, Krillin and Lunch, who are popular in the original work, appear for the first time. Therefore, in the first half of the story, Goku and Krillin are depicted in great detail as they compete on their way to the Demon Castle. Also, like the previous work, there are some parts that follow the original, such as the scene where Krillin becomes Master Roshi's apprentice, but other than that, it is an original story. Pay attention to the action scenes, including Goku's transformation into a giant ape for the first time in theaters, and his confrontation with a large group of monsters armed with machine guns.

Disc 02 Explanation of the Movies
Goku in this work, which was released in March 1990, is wearing a uniform with a turtle mark on his chest and a King Kai mark on his back. From this, it seems that his story took place between Vegeta's invasion of Earth on TV and Goku's arrival on Namek. However, in that case, Gohan would have been fighting on Planet Namek, but for some reason in the movie he was searching for the Dragon Balls with Oolong... It might be a slightly strange situation that was only possible because it was a movie version...?

As can be inferred from the markings on Goku's uniform (the version with "Go" on the chest and back), the story seems to take place just after Goku's arrival on the planet Namek in the TV episodes. The Turles Army, his opponent, makes very efficient use of the character and setting of the Saiyans, whose secrets were being revealed at the time. The stage of the battle is set on Earth to take advantage of the idea of the divine spirit tree. You can also enjoy the strange composition of Goku, who has left the Earth, protecting the Earth!?

Coola

Broly
He is known as the "Legendary Super Saiyan" and possesses overwhelming power. Even though he is a Saiyan, he is clearly different from Goku and Vegeta. Although he was defeated by Goku once, he revived twice and terrified everyone around him!

Bojack

TYPE 2: Human race
humans living on earth. While there are good people, there are also bad people, such as those who abuse the power of the Dragon Balls.

They are dangerous people with malicious intent!!
There are surprisingly many evil people from Earth, such as the Red Ribbon Army and Tsuru Sennin. Although their fighting power is poor compared to Saiyans, they are also very cunning. They try to trick Goku and the others with various schemes!

Taopaipai
In the TV version, he was an assassin hired by the Red Ribbon Army, but in the movie version, he is teamed up with Tsuru Sennin. He is a highly skilled martial artist and a formidable enemy who tormented Goku a lot when he was a boy.

Tsuru Sennin
A rival of Master Roshi with an evil heart. In the TV version, he is the master of Tenshinhan and Chiaotzu, but in the movie version, he appears as a vassal who takes advantage of the emperor. His skill as a fighter is already declining, but his cunning is on the rise!

Gourmet
He is the king of the Gourmet country and is a gluttonous monster. He was originally a normal human, but as he continued to eat luxurious meals, he turned into a monster. Due to the efforts of Goku and his friends, he returns to being human and reform.

Garlic Jr./Garlic trio
Garlic's son and his subordinates are demons who aspired to become gods, but were banished due to their wickedness. To get his revenge, he uses his subordinates to collect the Dragon Balls. He becomes immortal with the power of Shenron, but is sealed away.

Janemba
A psychedelic demon transformed by an accident that generated a large amount of evil energy. At first he had an adorable and cute appearance, but later he transformed into a ferocious form. Evil power defeats even Super Saiyan 3!

Hirudegarn
The demon statue of Planet Coconut is a monster that has been transformed by evil magic. He is feared and called the Phantom God. He was sealed away a thousand years ago, but woke up from his sleep and was resurrected. The two bodies will combine to form a huge monster!

TYPE 4 :Metal Power Warrior
Warriors created by science and technology. It possesses a terrifying power that cannot be achieved by a living body.

Ruthless killing machines!!
There are many people created by genius scientists, such as Dr. Gero's androids. Other creatures such as Metal Cooler, which was mechanized by the power of the Big Gete Star, and Dr. Willow, who became a mecha himself, would not exist without science and technology.

Metal Cooler
Cooler's brain, which was supposed to be dead, is fused with the main computer of Big Gete Star, which is wandering the universe, and is revived. Not only is its entire body strengthened with metal, it is also capable of creating hundreds of duplicate warriors.

Merged No. 13
An android left behind by Dr. Gero, a former Red Ribbon Army scientist. This is the strongest form in which No. 13 has transformed by incorporating data from Nos. 14 and 15. Even with the power of a Super Saiyan, he is impossible to destroy.

TYPE: 5 Bio Warriors
Living things created by humans through biotechnology. It has abilities specialized in battle!

A frightening runaway of life!!
The bio-warriors are unique entities rarely seen in the movie version. They are similar to mecha warriors in that they were created by genius scientists, but even though they are man-made, bio-warriors are distinct creatures!

Bio Broly
An amazing bio-warrior created from Broly's genes. Perhaps because it is in the process of being regenerated, its body has melted into mush, and it acts only on its fighting instinct. It has immense power that further strengthens Broly!

Goku's second son, Goten, makes his first appearance in the movie version. This movie focuses on Goten, young Trunks, and Videl. The first half of the story is quite comical because the main characters are young boys. However, it was also a shocking work in which the powerful enemy Broly makes a comeback. Judging from Videl's hairstyle and other factors, it is thought that the incident occurred just before the 25th Tenkaichi Budokai. In addition, the character names are a play on the popular "Nata de Coco" at the time, with the names of the village of Natade and the girl, Coco.

At the beginning of the story, Goku and
Vegeta are already dead. Furthermore, hints about the timeline can be found here and there, such as when Goku, who has transformed into Super Saiyan 3, talks about Majin Buu. In the TV version, it seems that the battle will take place within a very dense span, "after the appearance of Super Saiyan 3 ~ the climax of the battle against Buu. Perhaps for that reason, the battle content is rich and luxurious, such as the transformation into Super Saiyan 3 and the fusion of Goku and Vegeta.

Her head, body and face have been adjusted, making her even cuter. Her costume also gives an even more sophisticated impression.

Yamcha
He has a sturdy body and a slightly nihilistic look on his face. He might be cooler than the early days...!!

Master Roshi
Master Roshi remains almost unchanged. Aloha shirt, turtle shell, sunglasses, and trademark are perfect!

Sea Turtle
A sea turtle that looks a little rounder now. It's hard to notice, but maybe it's a little cuter...?

Oolong
Almost no change...but the color of the giant monster when he transforms into a monster has changed slightly.

Puer
The shape of his face becomes rounder, and the cuteness becomes much more powerful! However, his cheeky personality remains the same.

DRAGON BALL Movies BACKSTAGE
The movies version have been in production for about 10 years. How were these original characters and stories created? Let's go behind the scenes hidden behind the veil and find out the secrets!!

Theatrical Story Q&A
Takao Koyama-san handled the scenarios for the movies Dragon Ball Z through Dragon Fist Explosion!! That very Koyama -san cooperated with us to get at the secrets of the theatrical movies’ stories!!

Goku's bubble: There are so many things that even I don't know!!

Question 1: How did you create the original stories for the theatrical movies?

When we made the episodes for the theatrical features, first the scriptwriter, the producer, and Toriyama-sensei‘s supervising editor would get together, and meet about story concepts, such as what to do about the main villain. Then I would put together a plot based on the content of what we’d talked about. I’d send that plot to Toriyama-sensei and get his opinion on it, then start writing out the scenario — that was the typical flow. Once I got to writing, I’d be joined at the hip with the producer.

With regards to the contents, there was the restriction that the movie “not progress into story settings further ahead than the TV anime at the time of its premiere”; for example, even if I’d decided to do fusion, I wouldn’t be allowed to do it ahead of the TV anime or the original manga. So I’d always be conscious of its state of progress on TV, and if we were doing the Freeza arc in the TV anime at the time of the premiere, a story would be born with the sense of, “Let’s bring out Freeza’s older brother!” Except, at times such as when the state of production on the TV anime caught up to the original work, it would be extremely tough with nothing to use as hints, and I received ideas directly from Toriyama-sensei.

It would take about three months’ time from the planning stage until the completion of a single movie’s scenario. Dragon Ball Z had two movies shown each year, in spring and summer, so that works out to me having been writing a theatrical movie scenario for over half a given year at the time. (laughs)

Coola and Slug's images: Idea meetings for theatrical scenarios were usually held in hotels.... The setting for these powerful enemies came into being after much discussion and anguish.

Question 2: Why is there no sub-title for the fourth theatrical feature, Dragon Ball Z?

There’s no reason in particular. It’s simply because it was the first theatrical work as Dragon Ball Z, and it wasn’t decided at the time of production whether there would be sequels. So, with regards to this work, we (the production staff) didn’t even consider giving it a sub-title. None of us would have thought that we’d end up making a whole 13 after that. (laughs)

Gohan eating an apple image: Grown-up Gohan and Garlic Jr. will fight again in the TV version! This is also a happy miscalculation for the production side...!?

Question 3: What are the name origins for the movie-original characters?

Garlic Jr. and his group from Dragon Ball Z are spices. They’re as-is, but the roots are garlic (nin’niku), ginger (shōga), cinnamon (nikki), and Japanese prickly ash (sanshō). Also, their respective battle-cries are linked to foods that use their namesake spice. For instance, Garlic Jr.’s henchman Sansho’s battle-cry is “Unajū~!” (“Eel over rice!”). (laughs)

For The World’s Strongest Guy, it’s a series of specialties from Toriyama-sensei‘s home of Nagoya: from uirō, Nagoya Cochin, Kishimen, and fried prawns (ebi furai). Incidentally, I got the name of the Tsurumai-Tsuburi Mountains from Nagoya’s “Tsurumai Park”.

Tullece’s group is bean-type: Cacao, soy(a) (daizu), almond, raisin, and peanut (rakkasei). If you link together the names of Slug’s squad, you get the Andromeda Galaxy (Andoromeda Seiun). (laughs) Apart from Zeiun, you take the first two characters, and Zeiun is from “nebula” (seiun). Also, Slug is English for “slug” (namekuji). The names for Namekians in the original work are slug-type, so I must have been conscious of that when I named him.

Coola from The Incredible Strongest vs. Strongest actually has his origins in Shizuoka dialect. At a time when I was worried because I couldn’t decide on the enemy’s name, the Shizuoka-born producer said the word for “eat” (taberu) in dialect as “kuu ra”, which settled the name. (laughs) Since he’s Freeza’s elder brother, I made his subordinates into a salad-dressing squad of things like Thousand Island and mayonnaise, on the theme of items that would go into a refrigerator. Bojack and his group from The Galaxy at the Brink!! form the four-character phrases “bōjaku-bujin“ and “gokuaku-hidō“ when they’re linked together. (laughs)

I would decide on a theme for movie character names like this, one film at a time, and endeavored to make the names as elaborate as possible. If the one sending it out doesn’t have any playfulness through things like this sort of naming, the “let’s-be-friends” beam won’t come out from the screen to reach the kids in the theater. (laughs)

Tullece holding Gohan and Goku meeting Broli images: The Saiyan enemies are vegetable series, following the naming convention of the original work. Turles is lettuce, Broly is broccoli.

Fat Janemba's image: Janemba is based on a psychedelic demon and was born from a large amount of evil energy. The origin of the name is "evil wave"!

Gokuhan grabbing Future Trunks' head image: The Bojack-force that once went wild on a cosmic scale. The two idioms from which they originate are perfect for them!!

Question 4: Why is Kuririn dressed as Piccolo in The Dangerous Duo!?

That was having fun breaking down one type of story pattern. I suppose you could call it fanservice, as well. Piccolo always shows up looking cool, standing on the top of a tower or something with his cape flapping in the breeze, right? I wanted to let Kuririn do that once. I’d let the audience think, for an instant, “Piccolo’s come!” and then have it actually be Kuririn. (laughs) Whenever this sort of gag succeeded, including things such as direction, it was exhilarating to me as the scenario writer.

Krillin with Piccolo's cloak image: Krillin appears looking like Piccolo. But his cape is too tight. He borrowed the costume from Piccolo!?

Screenshot_20231128-034154_PhotoScan.jpg

Question 5: Why did Broli come back three times?

Because he’s the strongest. (laughs) Even including the TV anime, nobody exists in the world who’s stronger than Broli. I mean, even Vegeta, Prince of the Saiyans, was trembling in fear. (laughs) I felt that there’s no way that kind of mightiest being would die in a single outing. After all, there were kids who cried at Broli’s overwhelming strength when they saw Burn Up!! at Shueisha’s preview screening. (laughs) It’s always difficult coming up with an enemy for Goku, because I’d constantly have to escalate their strength. So, he ended up appearing three times.

This is true of Broli as well, but Goku & co. are always fighting against “an unbeatable foe”. Goku must win against such an enemy, so he has no choice but to defeat him when his enemy becomes overconfident and creates an opening. There’s absolutely no way he’d be able to win against someone like Broli if he used more orthodox methods. (laughs)

Bio Broli vs SSjin Trunks image: In the end, he is revived as a bio-warrior. However, because he is still in the process of being regenerated, there is no trace of his former self as his body melts into mush.

Question 6: Goku owned a suit…?

He’s worn it once. Perhaps Chi-Chi bought it for him at the department store… (laughs) The original comic and the TV show focused on battles, so episodes about the everyday life of Goku & co. aren’t depicted much. So, as an element special to the movies, I actively inserted scenes of Goku & co.’s everyday life, which couldn’t be seen on TV. After all, Chi-Chi going shopping at the department store, and Goku going to the parent interview for a test-prep school, are things you can’t find in the original comic. (laughs)

Also, I think Chi-Chi’s even more of an “education mama” than she was in the original comic. That was a reflection of the “education mama” and “entrance-exams-are-everything” zeitgeist at the time the movie opened; I thought kids at the time would feel better if they heard Goku’s message of, “It’s fine as long as he’s healthy, ain’t it?”. Because the kids who came to see the movie might have had a home environment similar to Gohan’s. (laughs)

Goku with a suit and Chichi's image: Wearing a suit in "Burn Up!!~". However, Goku couldn't get used to wearing it, so he couldn't help but want to take it off.

Question 7: Is it true that the Shinseiju (“Tree of Godly Might”) that appeared in Super Decisive Battle was Asian Ginseng?

It’s true. (laughs) The idea for the Shinseiju, which sucks up all the nutrients from the land, was born of a hint I got from the Asian Ginseng, which grows by sucking up nutrients from the field. It was a suggestion of the producer’s; it was really fortunate that he just happened to bring in the Asian Ginseng that he had received as a gift to a planning meeting. (laughs)

Tree of Might image: The Godly Tree appears in "The Whole Earth". Once it takes root, it sucks all the nutrients from the earth.

Question 8: Why was Videl picked to chaperone Goten and Trunks in The Dangerous Duo!!?

This was a matter of balance. Rather than just Goten and Trunks, having a girl involved would make dialogue between the characters livelier, and the story would be easier to create. So, for the purposes of the story setting, the dart fell right on Goten and his rival-in-training, Videl.

Also, with just the two kids, Goten and Trunks, they’d almost certainly be goofing off the whole time, and the story wouldn’t go anywhere. (laughs) So, by adding Videl, who is like a sister to the pair, I got her to pull the story forward. Plus, it was nice how, thanks to Videl having Satan as a father, it was easy for me to use him as I pleased. Satan, whose bad luck seems unusually strong, was a character I prized for his ease-of-use in developing the story.

Goten and Trunks' image: Even if young Trunks and Goten became Super Saiyans, they were still children. Both of them are completely selfish.

Question 9: Why did Gohan and Goten become the leads along the way?

This was an overlap with the original comic. In the theatrical features, I had to write stories in this world, but at the time, Goku was dead. (laughs) We couldn’t very well have Goku be dead in the original comic and on TV, but alive in the movies. So, if Goku was in the hereafter, I felt there was no choice but to have Gohan and Goten, who were in this world, do their best.

Even so, there would probably be people who wanted to see Goku on the screen. So, in the spirit of fan service, I’d make just a single shot of a scene in the afterlife. Like the last shot in The Galaxy at the Brink!!8 (laughs)

SSjin 2 Gohan's design and SSjin Goten, Trunks and Krillin image: Gohan and Goten have demonstrated fighting power that surpasses Goku. They greatly protect the Earth in Goku's absence!

Question 10: Vegeta got weaker in the movies…?!

In the last of the theatrical works, I purposely brought low Vegeta’s status as the “Prideful Prince of the Saiya”. Because of that, he became a bit of a pitiful Vegeta; I guess I might have done something bad to Vegeta-fans. (laughs) But this is because it was a major premise of the tale that Goku has to win in the end, so perhaps it couldn’t be helped that he would inevitably be contrasted with Goku….

But I believe that, to the same extent, I was really able to depict an image of the everyday Vegeta. The scene where Vegeta, who once went around causing destruction, tells off his foe with, “How dare you destroy someone else’s house?!” shows an unexpected side of him. (laughs)

Vegeta sitting behind a tree image: In the movie version, Vegeta goes through a lot of trouble, such as being tricked by Paragus and making a weak voice during the fight against Broly.

Movie version original character DESIGN LABO
Unique original characters from the movie. We asked the two people in charge of character design to reveal the secrets hidden behind them!

Thank you for your cooperation >> 2 people

Mr. Minoru Maeda
Worked on numerous character designs and animation direction, including "Dr. Slump Arale-chan
and "Soreike! Anpanman. He was in charge of the Dragon Ball movies from "The Legend of Shenron to "Extreme Battle!! The Three Great Super Saiyans.

Mr. Naoki Yamamuro
Responsible for character design and animation direction for films ranging from "Burn Up!! Hot Fight, Violent Fight, Super Fierce Fight" to "The Road to the Strongest". Currently, he is actively working on projects such as "Adventure King Beat Excelion
and "Golden Gash Bell!!.

Design Labo #1: The Legend of Shenlong

King Gourmet

This figure came from the image of being a big eater.
I think it was probably influenced by the gourmet food boom of the time.
I tried to create a reptilian skin texture and other "things that Mr. Toriyama would draw". (Maeda)

Various mechanisms
Around this time, I was also doing mechanical design along with the characters. I got the nuances of Toriyama's mecha by referring not only to the original Dragon Ball, but also to the mecha and inventions that appear in "Dr. Slump Arale-chan". (Maeda)

Design Labo #2: Sleeping Princess in Devil's Castle[/b]

Lucifer
As for the image...I think he's Sari-chan's father (lol). Like the shape of the head. I made him a handsome guy because of the nature of the story, but this type of villain may actually be rare in Dragon Ball. (Maeda)

Butler
Actually, this butler is a character that appeared in "Dr. Slump Arale-chan". (Maeda)

Gastel's subordinates
I made it in a shape similar to Gastel, with the image of an evil demon or demon from hell. In order to show flashy gunfights, we purposely provided him with a mismatched machine gun. (Maeda)

Gastel
Gastel's costume is inspired by ancient Chinese costume. He flies with fireballs under his feet to fight against Kintoun, but this was the director's idea. (Maeda)

Design Labo #3: A Mystical Adventuare

Emperor-shaped dumplings, etc. The costume for Gyoza was inspired by the movie "The Last Emperor.
I included a lot of patterns like those of ancient Chinese emperors, but when it came time to draw them, it was difficult (lol). The story itself is about an emperor (Dumpling?/Chiaotzu) being manipulated behind the scenes, so I created it based on the image of an old Chinese palace, similar to "The Last Emperor. The Red Ribbon Army also wears costumes similar to that, but only the Metallic Sergeant remains the same. Because it's a robot. (Maeda)

Tenshinhan
Tenshinhan in entourage attire to match the emperor-look dumplings. This is also said to be based on ancient Chinese clothing.

Imperial Flag
The imperial flag was also designed by Mr. Maeda. The symbol's dragon face is said to be based on the pattern on beer.

Design Labo #4: Dragon Ball Z

Garlic Jr

This character evolved from a discussion with the director, who said, "It would be interesting if a small guy turned out to be like the Incredible Hulk". In order to bring out the ferocity after the transformation, I made her look cute before the transformation. Even in the original work, the strongest boss character often seems to be the weakest at first. By the way, after he transforms, his clothes get torn, but his pants remain and they're wedged in tight. Actually, this is a hidden obsession (lol). (Maeda)

Nicky
The trio was derived from Garlic Jr. I added hair to Nicky to give it some variety, but it ended up making the character look very human (lol). (Maeda)

Design Labo #5: The World's Strongest Man

Dr. Willow, etc.

Dr. Willow was designed by Toriyama -sensei. The other original characters were designed based on the sensei's design. Since around this time, the number of combatants has increased, so I put protectors on them, which makes it easier to draw non-humanoid characters (lol). It wasn't until Vegeta and his friends came out that we introduced protectors, and before that, we were thinking of costumes based on regular clothes, martial arts uniforms, and armor. So if Gastel and his friends appeared in Dragon Ball Z in the second movie, I'm sure they would have been depicted wearing Saiyan-like protectors. (Maeda)

Ebifurya
The designs of the subordinates are basically based on the original characters. If it's a movie version, it's important to give them their own unique personalities.

Design Lab #6: A Whole Super Decisive Battle For Earth

Turles

Turles is a lookalike of Goku, so it's basically a picture of Goku. However, he has a brutal expression, is wearing a scouter, and his body is a bit rugged. The skin color was different, and above all, the costumes were completely different, so there was no need to make the design look "fake". (Maeda)

Cacao
Because the scenario depicted him as a robot, Cacao was set up as a mecha warrior.

Haiya dragon
This is also a character designed with inspiration from the color illustration of "Dr. Slump Arale-chan." Perhaps because it was so popular, it has continued to appear frequently. (Maeda)

Design Labo #7: Super Saiyan Son Goku

Decorated Haiya Dragon

In the scene where he dances to Gohan's whistle, we set up the costume to make the bell sound. There was actually a good reason for his dragon appearance (lol). (Maeda)

Slug
The basic design was done by Toriyama-sensei, but in order to hide the fact that he is a Namekian, we added a new helmet and protector. The cloak is said to make you look like a Namekian when you wear it.
(lol). (Maeda)

Design #8: The Incredibly Strongest VS Strongest

Coola

Toriyama-sensei drew all of the enemy characters such as Coola and Neize, even the height comparisons. The color is already attached to it, so there's nothing I can do to change it. There's no point in changing it (lol). It was easy for me to make and I was grateful. (Maeda)

Screenshot_20231128-034628_PhotoScan.jpg

Design Labo #9: Clash!! 10 Billion Power Warriors

Metal Coola

I made it with the concept of "make Coola metal," and "make it come out a lot." Nowadays, it would be possible to draw a lot with CG, but back then, everything was drawn by hand, so it was very difficult. I drew the highlights and reflections while actually looking at the iron objects, and even specified how light and shadow would enter the setting images. This was probably the most difficult work. Including the design and amount of work (lol). (Maeda)

Design Labo #10: Extreme Battle!! The Great Three Super Saiyans

Android 13, etc.

All of the enemies in this episode are Toriyama-sensei's designs. I was always amazed at the richness of the sensei's characters. (Maeda)

Design Labo #11: Burn Up!! Hot Fight, Violent Fight, Super Fierce Fight

Broly

I am using Mr. Toriyama's design as it is.
However, the second stage appearance is arranged to be quite macho. I spoke with the director and came up with the idea of making sure that his strength could be seen visually. In contrast to Goku, who uses his anger to become a Super Saiyan, I drew Broly with a sad image of him becoming angry and going berserk. (Yamuro)

Goku in a suit
It was decided from the beginning that Goku would be shown in a suit, but... I said I couldn't draw it. . (lol). As a hobby, I dressed him in a dignified double suit...but it was really difficult to draw. I didn't really get used to it until the end (lol). (Yamuro)

Design Labo #12: The Galaxy at the Brink!! The Super Incredible Guy

Bojack, etc

Bojack and the other five were designed with colors by Mr. Toriyama. I was amazed at the richness of variation, not to mention the amazingness of the drawings. I came up with the idea for the post transformation Bojack based on that. The original illustration was cool with elaborate costumes, but... it was hard to move him around. After the transformation, I decided to take it all away anyway (laughs). Mr. Toriyama said that they were inspired by space pirates, so I designed a spaceship that looked like a pirate ship, but... the whole scene was cut (laughs).

Depot Ship
Bojack's mother ship, which was shelved for the entire scene. It has an innovative design that combines mechanics and minerals.

Design Labo #13: The Dangerous Duo! Super Warriors Never Rest

Broly

I imagined the resurrected Broly to be more muscular than the previous work, and also more haggard in normal times. Since he lost to Goku and his friends once, I decided to make his clothes tattered and leave scars on him...I came up with this design. (Yamuro)

Sub characters and costumes
I thought about the costumes of the villagers while looking at data on ethnic costumes (I think they were Scandinavian). The shaman's head is tied with a necktie that drunk people often wear (lol). In this movie, I dressed Videl in a flutter costume, but it was difficult to draw her because she fights while wearing that costume. They even splash on the water surface (lol). (Yamuro)

Design Labo #14: Super Warrior's Defeat!! I'm the One Who'll Win

Bio Broly

I was really worried when I read the scenario. I was wondering what to do (laughs). Since it came out of the container unfinished, I tried proceeding with the idea that it was ``half melted.
The more I drew it, the more difficult it became (lol). (Yamuro)

Jaguar, grasshopper, etc.
The jaguar grasshopper was designed with a small and twisted image. He may be close to the commander of the Red Ribbon Army. The pet was inspired by the guardian dog. Basically, all of them are original, but Toriyama-sensei has redesigned Menmen. (Yamuro)

Design Labo #15: Resurrection Fusion!! Goku and Vegeta

Janemba

I imagined him as someone you can't hate before he transforms, and a demon-like character after he transforms. Janemba, especially after her transformation, has been well received by Toriyama-sensei, and is one of my personal favorite characters. At first, the pattern for the legs was a spiral with vines intertwined with each other, but Toriyama-sensei added an arrangement that led to this shape. (Yamuro)

Veku
A picture of fusion failure. The design was based on the episode in which Gotenks is born in the original work.

Design Labo #16: Dragon Fist Explosion!! If Goku Can't Do it Who Will?

Hirudegarn

...I honestly didn't know what to do. I was told that it would "split into two"... (lol). I remember making it with an alien motif through trial and error with the director. The tail is a remnant of him. ...In the end, he ended up looking like a cockroach. (lol). (Yamuro)

Coconut Aliens
I thought of Toriyama's character as a creature, similar to the gamecock alien. However, there was also a request to make him look like a ninja, so some of the characters were made to look like ninjas by wearing hoods. An alien and a ninja... (lol) (Yamuro)

Design Labo #17: Path to the Power

Goku and others

The concept of this work is to remake Toriyama's early work with the touch of Toriyama-sensei at the time. That's why I redrawn everything, including Goku and other regular characters. It was very difficult because the amount of material was different from the usual movie version. Goku's costume was made to connect to "GT" (which aired later), so I made a costume similar to that. The Red Ribbon Army was drawn entirely by Mr. Toriyama. Commander, you're getting smaller and smaller. Black is a different person now. (lol). (Yamuro)
