One Piece's popularity in Japan is sky high ever since Marineford, and worldwide it attracted plenty of new readers.

DBZ also became really popular in the West when the Freeza Arc aired... See a pattern, here?

One Piece is the new DBZ.

Freeza Arc = Best Arc in DBZ.

Marineford Arc = Best Arc in One Piece.

One Piece's popularity in the West WILL reach sky high levels when the Marineford Arc airs on Toonami.

I wouldn't say OP is the new DBZ, purely for the fact that it's surpassed it in all areas, though as far as this analysation goes, it's a good comparison.
