Boo called Tenshinhan a legendary fighter and used the fact he felled with a kick as a way to show Goku that, whatever he does, he won't be able to scratch his skin. He's on par with Boo saga Goku!

But seriously now, we know Tenshinhan can't be that strong as he's, most likely, below Kuririn... but what the fuck was Toriyama thinking with this scene by having Boo making a big deal or a testament to Goku's uselessness showing how Tenshinhan fell with a kick? It's just very weird, because, if we didn't know about the established Tenshinhan's limitations, I think anyone would take that scene as very strong argument for Ten being up there or stronger than Goku.... Just weird I think.

It's strange because he talks down Goku in the same breath and also considered Piccolos power puny and only worth absorbing for his brains lol. Just AT being stupid by that point due to burnout similar to him forgetting Gohan never died before the Boo arc.

That's a mistranslation:

Chapter: 502 (DBZ 308), P7.1
Context: Boo talks to Goku after knocking out Tenshinhan
Boo: “…That guy just now was apparently quite a master, but he was reduced to that state in just 1 one kick...”

"Apparently" a master. He is just talking about by human standards and was taunting him and Goku

Calling him quite a master is strange too when in his previous form he called base Gotenks a weakling. Guess he now knows the difference between Saiyan's and Earthlings due to Piccolo's brains.

Tenshinhan with the Shin Kikoho was probably SSJ3 level by the Boo arc.

I think Gero would just absorb his Shin Kikoho and become OP like Super 17
True but why didn't he just do it against 17 and 18 rather than just watch SSJ Vegeta get his ass kicked and charge in like a fool?

Tbf when your base power is as low as Tenshinhan's you need to get them by surprise.

That and Shin Kikoho is an asspull anyway

I think it was a philosophical point by Toriyama. You can train so hard and get so far, but in the end it doesn't even matter you can be killed by one kick. Even Jon Jones, when he's 98 years old, can be defeated by one kick.

Shin Kikoho is overrated. 18 was standing next to Semi Cell and Tien chose to blast Cell instead.

That's because Tenshinhan preferred to attack the biggest threat of the moment, I mean Semi Perfect Cell. At that time Android #18 was no longer invincible.

Perhaps Tenshinhan sensed that Android #18 would be part of the Z Fighters in the future.

It's also curious because Tenshinhan's Kikoho nullified Boo's blast. Sure, it didn't need to be that strong because it was aimed at killing Dende... But Gohan also saw the blast going at him and just screamed "no!!"... I think if it were a blast to pathetically weak, like, below Cell's level of power, he could just intercept it no matter what, by quickly moving in front of it, as he did by protecting Vegeta when SPC tried to kill him, only Cell's blast there was stronger than he thought... If he could have done that there, then there's no reason he wouldn't have done so were the blast 1/100th of his power. Heck, we have seen Freeza using attacks strong enough that no one but Vegeta could see when killing Dende and SPC using a beam that injured SSJ2 Gohan considerably aimed at a Vegeta who couldn't even move and was lying there defenseless... So DB characters many times go overkill with blasts even when targeting weak or weakened characters. It's just weird writing imo.

Gohan already had been zapped by Boo's kiai just before Boo shot that blast at Dende

Yeah but it didn't seem to affect him that much. He had recovered from it and was looking at the blast going at Dende.

He was probably still stunned enough to be unable to react in time. Against SPC he had taken no damage prior to that finger beam

On planet Earth, where up to a few years ago, the strongest fighter in history was Mutaito, someone with a power level in the low millions is indeed a legend.

I get the impression Boo attacked him not to make him unable to prevent Dende getting killed, more like Boo changed his mind on who to kill firstly. Otherwise he could just have targeted Dende with power enough that Gohan wouldn't prevent it from happening as he was way stronger there.
