There are common misconceptions I've noticed on those kind of things. For example:
Some people use spc damaging ssj2 gohan as a proof to say he is comparable to gohan and even then that could be the case, certainly this is no good proof for it. As gohan didn't anticipated how much stronger cell has gotten in relation to before of that i.e he wasn't fully prepared to receive the impact.
Another example is base trunks pushing future ipc with a kiai when this is followed by a similar kind of statement.
Equally as gohan, he wasn't truly prepared because he didn't anticipated the power increase coming from trunks.
